I started Canoe Slalom in 2004 age 11. A kayaking trip with the Scouts a few years earlier sparked my interest and I tried to join my local club, but was told I was too young!

Undeterred, I had another crack in year 6 when 8 places became available at Stafford & Stone CC, 4 girls, 4 boys. We were asked to write a letter explaining why we should be given a chance and I was lucky enough to be chosen with 7 others out of a total list of 60 applicants.

Training then was once a week for a couple of hours, but things moved really quickly and before I knew it I was competing in my first race in October 2004 which led to me being promoted up to Division 3. By 2006 I was in the premier division, the youngest person ever to be promoted to that division at the time.

2009 was a huge landmark for me as I broke onto the Great Britain Junior team and since then I haven’t looked back.  I have won numerous medals at all levels of international competitions, from Junior through to U23 then senior European and World Championships.

My sights are firmly set on Rio 2016. Training now is full time and full on at the Lee Valley London 2012 olympic course. Its all about getting myself into the best possible shape physically and mentally for Olympic selections later this year.

You can follow my progress – ups and downs – and see if the Rio dream becomes reality.
